RAD Remedy Statement on Recent Police Shootings
Posted by Riley on 07/08/2016
RAD Remedy stands with communities of Black and Brown folks nationwide in grief and outrage in the aftermath of the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile at the hands of police. Mr. Sterling and Mr. Castile are the latest in the far too many hundreds of people murdered by overzealous and often racist police who lack real accountability for their actions.
In a circumstance such as this where communities of color have been targeted, mistreated, and enslaved over the centuries, no words will suffice. It can be easy in the face of such brutality to throw up one's hands and say there is too much to be done, too much harm caused that one can't determine where to begin.
Thus, we'll continue to utilize the wisdom of Arthur Ashe who said "start where you are, use what you have, do what you can". RAD Remedy will continue to show up for those who face violence and persecution at the hands of the authorities - whether you are a person of color, a sex worker, undocumented, or someone else entirely, we at RAD Remedy believe that you should be free, healthy, and unconditionally safe, and we will continue to work to make it so.
In our own little corner of the RAD universe, I want to remind folks to please make use of the identities option under your user settings. By doing so, you help RAD Remedy and your fellow users see trends in care - which can illuminate racist or discriminatory treatment by providers. If you feel you've encountered such treatment and want to navigate feedback/complaint systems but it seems daunting, contact us for help. We'll work with you to know your rights, your reporting options, and next steps.
Lastly, if this is all overwhelming and you need to seek some support or talk it through, remember our friends at Trans Lifeline, who are here for us all: US: (877) 565-8860 Canada: (877) 330-6366
