On Trans Day of Remembrance, Resilience, and Resistance
Posted by Riley on 11/20/2016
Today, and everyday, we stand in grief and in power with our communities. Every November 20th, the trans community and our allies observe Transgender Day of Remembrance, a day when we stand together to remember those that we have lost in the past year.
The official list of lives lost contains the names and pictures of the beautiful people who were murdered. But we also don’t forget those we have lost for other reasons. We don’t forget those who we have lost to suicide. We don’t forget those whose names we will never know because they were misgendered and dead named. We don’t forget those killed in other countries. And, while we mourn every single day for every loss as it happens, today our communities take time to gather and hold that space together.
These names and faces weigh on our hearts every day - not just on TDOR. For those for whom TDOR is overwhelming, please take care of yourself. If you need to speak with someone, please reach out to our friends at Trans Lifeline.
For everyone reading this, we at RAD Remedy need you to know that we love every single one of you. None of you is disposable. We see you in your beauty, your resilience, and your fierceness. We trans folk live in a world that was not designed for us, yet we persist and resist. While some have died, those of us remaining will fight like hell to see that our community thrives. RAD Remedy is proud to stand beside you in the day-to-day trenches working to make things better.
Be well, everybody.
