RAD Remedy on the Censorship of Backpage
Posted by Riley on 01/10/2017
As some of you may know, Backpage.com has removed adult content as a result of ongoing legal and congressional pressure. This closure deeply impacts sex worker communities nationwide, as Backpage provided a low-cost and low-barrier way for marginalized folks in the adult industry to earn a living. From previous experience with RentBoy and other shuttered sites, we know that such closures can cause workers to have to engage in riskier, street-based sex work. It is hard to put into words the worry our sex worker friends and family are currently experiencing. Right now, thousands of folks are wondering where they are going to go to earn money they need to pay rent and sustain their families and survive, let alone thrive. RAD Remedy stands with sex workers worldwide in pushing for the decriminalization of consensual sex work. In the meantime, if you are a sex worker looking for resources, check out our database, and if you need something we don't have, drop me a line at firstname.lastname@example.org and I'll see what we can track down to meet your needs.
