This was the first therapist I ever went to when I was first starting to accept myself about 5 years ago.
She spent much of the intake (I can only hope it was for this reason) telling me about all her tv appearances and what an awesome ally she is.
Then told me I didn't look trans because I wasn't dressed as myself (This was my first time talking to another human being about me being trans). As well as her having a strict adherence to the horrible WPATH standards of care, pretty much to the letter.
Granted, this was several years ago now, but as I have traveled and gained experiences in this community, I would sadly imagine she has not changed much.
No one should tell a trans woman what is the right way to transition for her and no one should ever expect a trans woman to live "full time" for ANY amount of time before prescribing HRT. That is putting trans women's lives at risk.
So make sure you have done your research. Just because they *say* they know about our community, doesn't mean they do.
Read the WPATH standards of care if you are able. Ask for free consultations. You need to interview any potential mental health professional far before letting them peek inside you.
