Dr. Fruend is very well informed on transgender issues. He often has a full schedule, but has always found time for new patients. All types of insurance is accepting including Medicaid and Medicare. He works with the therapists in the area and often is able to recommend a great one in the area -- that's how I found mine. He follows the WPATH guidelines but is willing to work with you on the HRT regimen that fits you best. Nurse Lee, his assistant, is fantastic and will fight tooth and nail to make sure your insurance covers your healthcare. They provide letters for transition-related surgery as well and are accepting new patients. They are willing to work with patients in regards to costs. All of his staff are very well informed. The intake forms have a space for you to put your preferred name and pronouns. So the forms are very inclusive.
Dr. Fruend wants to make sure you have support, so he may ask you about your support system, and ask you to find support through the local trans group (called Transformations) or with a therapist or with friends. He wants to make sure that you will have someone there to help you through the tougher parts of transition. He will help you with setting it up with referrals, and then he will go over what the hormones may do and what to expect not just with physical changes but also psychologically and emotionally as all three areas will be influenced by HRT. He very much tries his best to keep his patients very well informed. He also has good information about where to find local surgeons, laser surgery, and other transition related procedures -- his Nurse Lee is also a great resource for information.
