I practice from a humanistic/existential framework focused on client strengths and possibilities rather than deficits or pathology and specialize in working with people who experience themselves as outsiders to dominant culture: creative artists, performers, activists, LGBTQ, trans* and gender non-conforming folks and people who may feel "other" due to cultural or family bias.
Using an anti-oppression lens, I strive to be especially sensitive to the ways “isms” (racism, sexism, homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, ageism, heterosexism, monosexism, classism, anti-Semitism, ableism, etc.) and microaggressions impact emotional health and well-being.
I am a cisgender member of the LGBTQ community and have devoted lots of training hours to understanding the complexity of gender identity, gender nonconformity, and trans* issues. In addition, I participate in Ingersoll Gender Center's provider consultation group. While training and consultation are great, I’ve learned the most from listening to my friends and clients who are navigating the gender spectrum.
In addition, as and out Bi/Queer person, I am especially sensitive to the experiences of non-monosexual people and the negative impacts of monosexism and bi-phobia on bi/pansexual/fluid people. I an also a Certified Foster Care and Adoption Therapist, and engage regularly in training, reading and organizing work to be aware of my own privilege as a white, cisgender, middle-class, temporarily able-bodied woman.
I work with children, youth, adults and families but do not see couples.
Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs: Noon - 7pm. By appointment only.
