Jana Ekdahl, MA LMHC
WPATH Standards of Care Yes
During my graduate training at Antioch Seattle, my academic focus was on Transgenderism. I read whatever was available in the late nineties and looked at the research conducted up to that date. My mentors were Marsha Botzer and Bryant Vehrs. I did my internship at Seattle Counseling Center, where I was hired as a mental health therapist. I worked at SCS for 7 years, and managed the Gender program for the last 3 years I worked there, before expanding my private practice. I also served on the Ingersoll Board of Directors for 3 years. I have conducted many trainings and presentations through the years, and also made media appearances, which included an episode on the Oprah Winfrey show. My practice is client-centered and humanistic in nature. I work in collaboration with my clients, as we are part of a team, which may or may not include medical professionals, to explore and expand the bounds of gender, wherever that may take us. It is an incredible journey, at times fraught with danger, certainly challenging, and sometimes soul-searching. My work is a blessing, as I have met, and continue to meet, the most amazing people in my practice.
I generally go by WPATH standards of care. I do write letters for HRT when required by prescribing physicians and also for surgeries.
