Description

I have focused both my education and my practical experience on working with trans* clients and their loved ones. Because no two clients are alike, I approach each individual from an integrated model of counseling, drawing on a number of theories, which I believe inform how people view themselves and how they fit, or do not fit, in the world. Some of the most prominent theories in my work are Mindfulness-based work, Attachment Theory, and Social Justice/Anti-Oppression work. I recognize that oppressions, both internalized and societal, keep people small and quiet. I work with clients to stop judging themselves by society's standards, and start seeing their innate strengths. I am interested in knowing and working with the entirety of my clients' identities and experiences and helping my clients to better understand these parts of themselves.I hope to help clients gain more self-worth in the face of previous relationships, families, and systems that told them that they aren't good enough.

Working together, we might explore:

-Questions about sexual and gender identities

-Coming out to family, friends, or partners as trans

-Exploring societal, institutionalized, and internalized oppressions associated with being trans

-Preparing for the experience of medical gender transition, of yourself or a loved one

-Writing letters of support for medical gender transition.

I do write letters of support for hormone therapy and surgeries. I believe in using an Informed Consent (ICATH) model and working with clients at a pace that makes sense for them. I am familiar with various standards of care including WPATH and ICATH, and have experience collaborating with clients in navigating these models within health, mental health, and other systems.
