WPATH Standards of Care Yes
I am currently completing a 2-year fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS) at Stanford University in Stanford, California. I completed my residency in Urology at Albany Medical College in Albany, New York. I obtained my M.D. from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a Howard Holderness Distinguished Research Scholar. My research interests have included neurourology, renal fibrosis, underactive bladder, pelvic floor ischemia and animal models. As part of my fellowship training I want to explore research areas within the field of Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) healthcare. LGBT patients are referred to our program and I would like to improve the overall aptitude and knowledge base of our department with regards to how to best take care of these patients. As part of my training in I would also like to expand the current curriculum to include transgender surgical techniques related to the field of FPMRS.
I have not completed any formal training courses in human sexuality. During my residency training we cared for many transgender patients and helped care for urologic issues unrelated to their gender assignment. In becoming a member of WPATH I would like to expand my circle of contacts within the professional transgender community and become actively involved in academic research to improve transgender healthcare. By joining WPATH I hope to find collaborators in my region with similar research goals.
