My theoretical orientation is primarily existential, with an emphasis on affirmative, cognitive, and multicultural approaches. This means much of my work focuses on taking a collaborative approach with clients to identify external challenges, personal choices, and regaining a sense of control and meaning in situations that can sometimes feel chaotic and overwhelming. Instead of pathologizing difficulties, the client is encouraged to identify unique personal strengths to find solutions to existing problems. My approach often focuses on issues relating to social justice and intersecting oppressed identities, and navigating an authentic sense of identity development within a culture of privilege and oppression.

As a gender specialist, some of my work focuses on gender identity and gender transition, exploring nonbinary gender identities, concerns of intersex individuals, and issues related to sexual orientation and sexuality. I also help individuals develop healthy interpersonal relationships, address cultural concerns, social anxiety, depression, and more serious psychological concerns.

Overall it is my goal to help all clients develop a sense of control, personal meaning, and self-acceptance that allows them to manage the many unique challenges that we encounter over the course of our lives.
