Simon is a psychotherapist and licensed social worker. He is a graduate of Smith College School for Social Work where he focused on psychodynamic treatments, psychoanalytic theory, and the psychological effects of racism, oppression, and stigma. Before joining The Juniper Center, Simon worked in community mental health with clients experiencing difficulties adjusting to major life changes, depression and anxiety, significant trauma, relationship and family problems, grief and loss, substance abuse, chronic medical issues, and long-standing struggles with self-acceptance. Simon has advanced training in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and in working with LGBTQ clients. His research explores affirming clinical work with practitioners of BDSM and Kink sexualities. Simon has worked for nearly two decades as a community resource for transgender and gender-exploring adults and youth, as well as their families and loved ones.
I offer client-centered supportive and insight-oriented therapy, and enjoy connecting deeply with people at all stages of recovery from psychological worriesfrom those interested in trying therapy for the first time to folks returning for another period of healing, exploration, and growth. I have a warm, non-judgmental temperament that allows people to share what brings them into session, even when the issues may feel overwhelming or hard to talk about.
