Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center
Dr Bicalho is amazing! I just had a total laparoscopic hysterectomy with bilateral salpingectomy (kept the ovaries) with her. She has all her patients stay 1 night in the hospital, which seemed unusual from what I read, but I felt like it was the right call for me. From the beginning, she was had knowledge and experience about trans health in this area. She was able to tell me what others have done and why in order to inform my own decision making. This was great when discussing whether to keep my ovaries or not. She listened to my needs and didn't push me one way or the other, just laid out the risks and advantages. I also went through insurance, and their people (Jackie!) dealt with all the insurance stuff no problem. I didn't have to make any angry phone calls to get it covered.
When scheduling an appointment, I would recommend calling the office directly and not going through the general Advocate system. Their staff are much better (though sometimes a bit hesitant) about talking OB/GYN stuff with someone who sounds like a dude on the phone. It did take me almost a month to get an appointment with her, but it went smoothly after that. The post-op packet I received spelled out all the unexpected symptoms I might have, and it might be nice to get that upfront.
I was worried about my stay in the general hospital (because of a friend of mine's experience), but they were great with me. I totally pass, so I didn't have any trouble with pronouns or hesitancy to treat my body. They were great, and my husband stayed with me overnight.
