Melissa Gosland, MD

Waimea Clinic

Categories:   Family Medicine, Hospice / Palliative Care, Primary Care

I became interested in family medicine through a special medical program offered in the University of California system that offers medical training focused on collaborative problem solving while treating the patient as a whole. I’m certain it prepared me well for life as a family medicine physician and the special effort I put into collaborative health planning and communication with my patients, their families and with other medical providers.

I believe that no disease or illness affects a body part in isolation and that as human beings we are an interdependent part of a larger system – be it a family, a workplace, a school or a community. And this, to me, is the very essence of family medicine.

I also have my Hospice and Palliative Medicine certification, am a member of the Kaiser Permanente Prevention Committee, and I am the Hawaii region’s physician representative for, Kaiser Permanente’s public website.

In addition to English, I also speak Spanish.
